Why values are important? Our values inform our thoughts, words and actions. Our values are important due to the fact they help us to grow and develop. They help us to create the future we desire to experience. Values such as fairness, kindness and responsibility for others need to be an essential part of a student's self or identity. We need to assist our students not only recognize values but strengthen a deep dedication to values.

Character really matters more than competence, because it is the ‘right stuff’ that students need to develop in order to survive and succeed in their lives. We labor to teach students this because it is always what’s inside that count. Moral values are essential in life because: If a individual has in no way realized about moral values then how can he/she figure out between the good and the bad. Moral values mirror an individual's personality and spirituality. They help in constructing appropriate relationships in personal as well as professional lives.

Orientation

Orientation is very essential because it lays a foundation for us observers in the school new whole observation with the school. It is essential for some motives due to the fact it affords the new observers with accurate information about the school and the policies to make him more comfortable with his entire observation. It also inspire us observers confidence and helps us to adapt quicker the rules and regulation in the cooperating school that was once assigned to us and it helps us future educators to make contributions to a more effective, productive observation. And it is also a way to have a clear communication between the teachers and for us observers. We should always attend orientations even if it’s required or not because it always give us information about how things are done in our entire teaching career.

Singapore and Finland

Most of the Educational System of the countries at present focuses on the personality of their graduates rather of the competences. In the video, Singapore and Finland Educational System purpose of education are to impart values needed for functioning of society and equip youths with the abilities, understanding that is required in the 21st century to allow them to be successful and make contributions effectively to society. I also discovered that at the very young age of the students they are already analyzing how to enhance cooperative relationships and understand the views of others, hence improving social intelligence. In the Finnish Educational System the video is entitled “Equal opportunities for all”, sure indeed! All students can have the equal educational opportunities. The teachers are just only facilitators nevertheless their most important aim is to prioritize the teaching and gaining knowledge of process in their system.

The Philosophy of an Educator

As I observed my resource teacher I saw that she is Progessivists because she favors to instruct students in a way that has some simple instruction, but that additionally gives students room to develop and enlarge on their own. For her team work is the key to having a successful class and is something she value, particularly with older students. She feel it is really helpful for students to once in a while work for the answer alternatively than being instructed because it stretches their knowledge and teaches them how to find information in a variety of ways. She also feel that a key to success is for the class to work on tasks to help others.

As an educator, it is essential not only to assist the students that you are teaching, but also provide them direction to help others and it is vital to keep in mind to enjoy students and everything they have to offer.

Teaching as an Art

We all know that Art is “a diverse range of human activities in creating artworks, expressing the author's imaginative, conceptual idea, or technical skill, intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power”. To have a perfect artwork you must be patient. Having a perfect output takes time.

“Teaching is a skill in an art form.” When we say art it’s not only based on what the teacher do to make her instructional materials creative. It is also based on how the teacher shows her uniqueness to deliver his lesson properly and make it efficient to his learners. Being a teacher is not really an easy task. Because we are the one who will mold their lives and we are constantly collecting information’s by observing our students in order to see if learning is taking place.

Being a teacher doesn’t mean that once did your lesson plan you are already able to teach. Teaching has many factors, considering the elements of teaching.

The first element of teaching that was shown by my resource teacher was her different approaches in every section, because learners have different learning styles. Because for her, knowing the learning styles of her students is one way to help them succeed and meet the particular goals in their lesson. Next is the content knowledge, my resource teacher have a deep knowledge of the subject that she teaches. And I saw that there’s a proof that it has a great impact on student outcomes. And she showed us how she implements classroom management. And lastly, the quality of instruction she is used in effective questioning and use of assessment. Even though the school doesn’t have conducive classrooms, my resource teacher still meets her expected outcomes.

3rd Reflection

I really liked what Dr. Wong said in his video, he said that “Failing to plan is planning to fail.” It is true that in our lives, if we do not set goals or plan ahead in our life we cannot succeed. We better need to be prepared in all the things that we will do. Because sometimes people who fail to prepare their goals lose their way easily.

In the 3^rd video of Dr. Wong he talked about the Discipline Plan. The rules, that needs to be set in the first meeting of the class. What are your expectations from your students. Next are the consequences, or the things that will happen to your students if they weren’t able to follow the rule. And lastly, the reward to the student as a sign of giving recognition in what he/she did. We need to always consider that planning for the classroom is an important part of educating and behavior management.

2nd Refelction

Classroom Management offers a conducive environment for effective teaching and it also includes ensuring that stressful and non-educational situations are avoided and students learn subjects effectively.

Classroom Management is very important because as Dr. Wong stated in his video it optimizes student learning and achievement. When managing or improving the classroom we are constantly working to create a learning environment in which we are allowing all of our students to succeed. Having a good classroom management successfully engages the students, engaging students’ boosts their confidence and makes the lesson more effective. The effective use of time is an important factor in helping students achieves their learning goals. Dr. Wong also shared about the seating arrangement and he stated that, to maintain a positive classroom atmosphere we need to develop and maintain a positive learning environment because it is a foundation of effective teaching. Managing the classroom’s seating arrangement is a process which the teacher must be the facilitator.

1st Reflection

“How can we consider ourselves as an effective teacher?” 

As a future teacher we always ask ourselves, “How?”. As I’ve watched Dr. Harry Wong’s video on how to become an effective teacher, some ideas comes to my mind. Dr. Wong stated the 4 stages of teaching and these are Fantasy, Survival, Mastery and especially the Impact.

We are not only tasked to teach our students the contents of their subject or teach knowledge, we are also hired because as a future teacher we’re going to be one of the people that will influence good things in their lives. We are the one who will guide and care for them aside from their family. We teachers have a very significant, lifelong impact on all of our students. We are playing a crucial role in the lives of our students so that they will become successful in their career after they graduate. So we need to give our very best as we enter their room and start our discussion.

To become an effective teacher we need to consider that we don’t only teach students because it is our job, we teach them to so that we’re going to be their way to encourage them to fulfill their potential and  make a huge difference on our society as well in our country. Because students that are inspired by their teachers can do amazing things.

Keeping this quote in mind, we all have aspects of our lives that we would like to improve. As a future educator we need to let go of our ideal of perfect and conceive to honestly doing all of our best for ourselves, for other people and specially for our students and border our life closer and closer to wherever we would like to be and celebrate each success or failure on the means, as long as we rise and keep making an attempt, keep creating progress.

As a Teacher Ed Student we have selected an important profession requiring the very best standards. We must make contributions to the betterment of the future through providing each of our graduating class in the future with essential tools needed to “make a difference.”

Being a teacher is not that easy because I saw in my previous Field Study observations how the teacher engages in the different kind of learners.

And I would like to convey my gratefulness to my family, my friends and my professors for their generous support, for being patient and for their unending reminders that I’m going to be successful teacher someday.
